Not Forsaken
Our subject will be learning to hear from God but first I want to give you a little background on myself.
As a young man, growing up in the north-¬central area of New Jersey in the 1950's and early 1960's, I was greatly influenced by my father who was an investment broker on Wall Street. He was not only a good provider but he had developed some spiritual disciplines that would come to change my life as well.
Many mornings my dad would arrive in downtown New York, well before the Stock Exchange opened. He would go to the old Trinity Church at the foot of Wall Street (by the way that's where George Washington used to worship at times) and practiced listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Now my dad did not get any hot tips from God about what stocks to buy, but he learned how to set his day in order spiritually. One man said, "The things of God are caught not taught", and I caught that discipline from my father.
This series of teachings really seeks to open you to the secrets that God has shown me, from His word as how to prepare yourself to hear from God. We will not only use precepts and principles but many examples as well, so that you'll have a hunger and thirst to know more about the things of God and how to hear the voice of God.
A key scripture for this will be Isaiah 50:4 where God promises to awaken our ears to hear as the learned. That is really what we want to do in this time. Remember, you are His sheep and you have the promise that you will know His voice (John 10:27). With that understanding, we want to get moving and begin to give you some teaching along these lines.
