Chapter One

LEAD TO UNCOVERING THE CODE

Until now, no Nostradamus quatrain has ever been interpreted before the occurrence of a specific event, beyond a very general level such as a fire will occur or a war will start ...

To avoid religious and political persecution Nostradamus wrote his prophecies using highly metaphorical and cryptic language with what seems to be an irrelevant order and dates in the quatrain sequence. The numbering of the Quatrains and of the Centuries or chapters got my attention to the point where I wondered if there was a purpose for Nostradamus in doing so.

Nothing made much sens, like in the letter to his son Caesar where he states that the end time for the fulfilment of his prophecies is set from here to the year 3797, adding that upon seeing such extend of time, some people will raise their eye brows. Well I did and that was the very moment where I realized the need to pay attention to the word for word of what Nostradamus wrote. Clearing my mind of all preconceived notions and applying simple math corroborating at first all the dates mentioned by Nostradamus I began to look at eventual patterns or keys, I was convinced that if he wrote these numbers there was certainly a meaning for it.

Starting with his letter to Caesar, Nostradamus states literally: "I composed books of prophecies containing each hundred astronomical quatrains of prophecies, which I wanted a little bit to set obscurely and are perpetual come and go from here to the year 3797". The last sentence meaning: from here 1st of March 1555 (date of the letter) to (or until) 3797, subtracting these two numbers the difference is 2242. Nostradamus may have meant total duration of time as understood by our contemporary calendar, which start from the birth of Christ and may extend to the year 2242 as the fulfilment of his prophecies. Lets retain this year date of 2242 and see the relation to some of the other numbers given by Nostradamus.

In the letter to Henri II King of France, Nostradamus refer to his letter to Caesar and then give us two chronologies of time from Adam to Christ and from the Creation to Christ. In these two chronologies one can see, without being a master in history or biblical studies, that the periods of time stated by Nostradamus do not correspond to the historical reality and are hypothetical rounded numbers, so lets analyze them.

1st Chronology (Letter to Henri II)

Adam to Noah (approximately) 1242 years, (added =) (1242) Noah to Abraham 1080 (2322) Abraham to Moses 515 or 516 (2838) Moses to David 570 (3408) David to Christ 1350 (4758) TOTAL 4758 (Birth of Christ) By adding the duration of 2242 (found by the difference stated in Caesar's letter) we arrive exactly at 7000 years Christ to the Saracens 621 (Islam, Muhammad)

The number of 7000 years total duration is important as he states in Quatrain # 48, Century # I:

"Twenty years of the moon's rule passed Seven thousand years other will hold its rule When the Sun will take its exhausted days Then accomplished and meant my prophecy"

The first sentence refer to the astrological lunar cycle of 354 years beginning in 1535 until 1889, twenty years after 1535 is 1555 and the year corresponding to the first dedication of his prophecies in the letter to Caesar.

The second sentence refer to the 7000 years of the prophecies, past present and future as he also mention the number in the same letter to his son Caesar dated 1st of March 1555, and "other will hold its rule", mean the one thousand years that will follow under the rule of Christ as foretold in the Bible and in opposition to the passed 7000 years ruled by Evil ending with the first judgment, completing 8000 years or the eighth millennium.

Adding 2242 + 20 + 1000 = 3262, the approximate year for the final judgment of all things.

The third sentence mean the astrological end, but also the word "Sun" for God when he would allow Christ to rule and exhaust the time for the salvation of mankind.

The fourth simply states that by then (2242, the beginning of Christ rule) his prophecies will be accomplished with all its meaning. Furthermore in Caesar's letter Nostradamus states: "... that we are in the seventh number of thousand that is to achieve all ..." and this may explain why Nostradamus has calculated all in past, present and future time totaling 7000 years and continuing in to the eighth millennium that is to achieve all.

Upon this chronology the understanding would be that the actual dating, according to our contemporary calendar, start in 4758, the year of the birth of Christ or the year zero of our calendar.

With this number in mind, lets pursue our investigation into the second chronology that follows and given by Nostradamus in the very same letter to Henri II, the chronology appears quite different.

2nd Chronology

Nostradamus count (Lunar Years) ... Converted to Solar ... (Diff) ... Added =

Creation to Noah 1506 1254 (Ratio 1.2 = 1) (252) 1254 Noah to Arche 600 500 (100) 1754 Flood 1.2 1 (0.2) 1755 Flood to Abraham 295 246 (49) 2001 Abraham to Isaac 100 83 (17) 2084 Isaac to Jacob 60 50 (10) 2134 Isaac in Egypt 130 108 (22) 2242 Jacob in Egypt 430 358 (72) 2600 Out of Egypt to Salomon 480 400 (80) 3000 Salomon Temple to Christ 490 408 (82) 3408 TOTAL 4092.2 3408 (684.2)

But following the chronology, Nostradamus states the total given (first column) is "4173 and 8 months approximately ..." which doesn't match with the real total of 4092.2 and a difference of 81.6 or approximately 68 solar years, once converted from lunar to solar. This correspond to the average difference between lunar and solar counts for each of the ten sub-chronologies totaling 684.2 years. The numbers in the second and third columns are my numbers when converted from the first column to solar years and then added. In this second chronology Nostradamus also states "... let the given (information) be solar or lunar or a mixture of the ten. I hold the sacred scriptures use Solar (years) ..."

These remarks by Nostradamus is letting us know that the year count must be done in Solar year and accordingly in the second column I have converted the lunar years given by Nostradamus to solar with the simple ratio of 1.2 to 1 as generally accepted for Lunar to Solar conversion, I then arrive at a total of 3408 for the year corresponding to the birth of Christ or year zero of our contemporary calendar. Looking back to the 1st Chronology we find this number 3408 in the second column when you sum the number of years from Adam to David (4th added position) and/or when subtracting from the total the difference of 1350 years found in 5th position (David to Christ) 4758 1350 = 3408.

If hypothetically we add 2242 like we did in the 1st Chronology, we arrive at 3408 + 2242 = 5650 years for the total duration of past, present and future instead of 7000 years, (a difference of 1350 years as above mentioned). Lets also retain this 3rd number of 3408 as a possible key to a dating system given by Nostradamus. Also of interest is the number 2242 found again in the 2nd Chronology, 7th added number in the 3rd column which may not be a coincidence. ( Perhaps the 7th number for the 7th millennium?).

To further prove that we may be along the right tract, lets take the dedication date of 14th of March 1557 in the letter and add the difference between Lunar and Solar years in the third column of 684.2 + 1557.4 = 2241.6 or 2242 as a round number confirming the end predicted by Nostradamus in the letter to Caesar.

From these two chronologies, two important numbers must be retained : 4758 and 3408 as the years corresponding to the birth of Christ or year zero AD, the beginning of our current and generally accepted calendar, regardless of the minor adjustment between Julian and Gregorian calendars.

These numbers may reflect the following three legged calendar dating system:

1) 4758 + 2242 = 7000

2) 3408 + 2242 = 5650

3) 0000 + 2242 = 2242

Nostradamus went to a great extend in writing these chronologies, thus the resulting numbers must be very important if a dating code is intended.

Continuing in the same letter, after the 2nd Chronology, Nostradamus gives us a series of astronomical configurations, stating: "... and after some times and within the one comprising from ... between and until ..." Selecting only the days of the month written in Arab numerical by Nostradamus, we arrived again to some curios numbers and sums, lets view them:

Saturn in Capricorn.......7 April to 25 August....Day # without Month #....Last 4 digits (Converting to number =) 74258 725 (1) 4258

Jupiter in Aquarius.......14 June to 7 October (Converting to number =) 146710 147 (2) 6710 Mars in Scorpio............17
April to 22 June
(Converting to number =) 174226 1722 (3) 4226 Venus in Pisces...............9
April to 22 May
(Converting to number =) 94225 922 (4) 4225 Mercury in Capricorn....3 February to 24 February (Converting to number =) 32242 324 (5) 2242 Mercury in Aquarius......1 June to 24 June (Converting to number =) 16246 124 (6) 6246 Mercury in Pisces........25 September to 16 October (Converting to number =) 2591610 2516 (7) 1610

TOTAL 6480 = year 1722 AD Applying 1st Chronology 6480 - 4758 or year zero, = 1722, found in 3rd position. Subtracting (-), Equal (=) (0 AD) 4758, seen in 1st Chronology. Subtracting (-) 2516, in (7th) and last position. Equal (= The end of the prophecies) 2242, a number also found in 5th position of the last column.

The only explanation I could imagine for taking off 1722 (3rd position) from the total is simply because the total of 6480 or year 6480 in Nostradamus calendar of 7000 years correspond exactly to that year 1722.

The year 1722 was uneventful to the exception of the invention by De Moivre of the formula of complex numbers in Trigonometry. Another theory would be that the total number of the 2nd chronology, 3408 is the actual calendar year for the final judgment after the millennium rule under Christ. If we take 3408 - 2242 (first judgment) = 1166 years and adding 1350 (the difference between the two chronologies) = 2516, curiously matching the number referred in last and seventh position above.

I believe Nostradamus has intentionally presented us with 3 arithmetical charades in his letter to Henri II. The two chronologies do not correspond to the historical time reality well known by Nostradamus, the astronomical configurations that follows seem meaningless, suggesting that a humorist Nostradamus intended somehow to confuse the reader.

With a little exercise of arithmetic it is undeniable that Nostradamus carefully chose these numbers to arrive at the 3 dating systems starting with the years 4758, 3408 and zero to end in 7000/5650 or 2242, the number found earlier in the letter addressed to his son Caesar by deducting 1555 from 3797, and a repeated number that Nostradamus want us to retain above all as the final number or years for the duration of his prophecies.

The next chapter will demonstrate how these numbers may be applied to the Quatrains in order to reveal the dates of the events foretold by Nostradamus and beyond mere coincidance, in other words the code intended by Nostradamus.

Chapter Two

THE CODE

The numbers found aroused my curiosity and I could see how Nostradamus had purposely gave them in order to formulate a key for a possible dating code of his prophecies and if true, very far from astrological calculations.

In short, he states in his letters that if he had wanted to put the dates, names and places where the future events will happen, he would have easily done so, but due to the persecutions and misconceptions of the times, he could not reveal it in the open and had to write the prophecies in obscure sentences, that if appearing generic, they will however have only one precise meaning. That he calculated the dates of the events through "astronomical" calculations, (I believe the word meaning extensive calculations and not related to astronomy) all set in a disorderly manner, adding; that people will have a hard time in deciphering the meanings and more so in trying to make sens of it. That people will attribute to him what is not and concludes in the letter to his son Caesar, that at one point of time in the future, some will be able to figure out the dates of events to come after having figured out unmistakably the dates of some of the past prophecies that have for sure happened. This last sentence in itself clearly alludes at the presence of some code or formula of knowledge motivating my research.

In the first part of his letter to Henri II, Nostradamus states that he composed and calculated the dates the most accurately possible according in part to a "tripode aeno", many scholars interpreting this as a magic brass tripod. My understanding; I believe he met a 3 legged (tripod ) year counting system, the word "aeneo" being a phonetic anagram for "anno" (year) and not a magical anode. The base for this counting tripod could then simply be the following three dates discovered in the previous chapter:

4758 -----3408 -----0000 (1st Chronology to Christ) (2nd Chronology) (Actual Chronology) Up to: (7000) (5650) (2242) (End of his prophecies)

Nostradamus explain that calculation and composition of the prophecies includes past, present and future so therefore a number that regroup all and defy changes in the calendar as humans have done several time in our past. I later discovered that another reason is to probably better fit a certain number range applicable to each of the quatrains decoded values.

Now since it appears to be a numbers game, how would these numbers apply to a quatrain? I thought that a logical hypothesis would be to convert the words of the quatrains to numbers like giving a value to each word by the number of letters contained in their spelling. Example: Michel = 6, Nostradamus = 11, etc., quite simple. The Quatrain and Centurie numbers could also be converted to Arab numerical. Example: Centurie I (Roman number), Quatrain 35 (Arab number) would simply read 135 as a single arab numerical.

For this to work, having the most accurate text possible and the original French was paramount as any misspelling could drastically change the value of the numbers. Many scholars are puzzled by the fact that Nostradamus seem to have spelled the same word different ways through the prophecies or used different forms of grammar, this could be one of the explanation for Nostradamus intentionally doing so in order to obtain the desired word number value.

In the 16th century, French grammar, spelling and printing process was at its embryo stage and one could find different spellings in a same text printed by different publishers, thus adding to the difficulty to ascertain what Nostradamus really wrote.

To begin my analysis, I choose a well known prophetic quatrain documented and accepted by most scholars as having occurred unmistakably, the famous quatrain 1-35 foretelling the death of King Henri II in a jousting game accident in 1559. I found it to be the erfect tool to clearly see the numbers representing the year of the event by applying the above dating system, here is the prophecy:

Q 1-35 - Date of accident: 30-06-1559, actual death: 10-07-1559. (DD/MM/YYYY) (Original French text) Le Lyon ieune, le vieux surmontera, En champ bellique par singulier duelle: Dans cage d'or les yeux luy crevera, Deux classes une, puis mourir, mort cruelle.

(Verbatim English translation) The young lion, the old to overcome, On the combat field by single battle: In the golden cage he will pierce his eyes, Two class one, then to die, cruel death.
