Overview

Sharon is in love with two men: one her fiancée, the other her fiancée’s best friend. The year is 1969.

“You’ve been everywhere, Aunt Sharon,” Nina remarked.
“The first time, my ex and I hitchhiked up from Colorado.”
“You hitchhiked to Alaska?” Nina asked. “Wasn’t that dangerous? Why did you do it?”
Sharon’s eyes took on a mischievous squint. “Why do most people do crazy things in their lives? I think there’s a song about that.”
“For love? For your husband’s love?”
“No, dear. For someone else’s love.”

Northern Light takes Sharon and the reader traveling to Haight-Ashbury, New England, the Rocky Mountains, and the shores of the Yukon River in Alaska, meeting colorful characters along the way. But can she find love without giving up her sense of self?

Susan Maywood lives in sunny southern California, a transplant from lovely Vermont and its l-o-n-g winters. She began writing funny skits for her church's annual variety shows. She discovered the satisfaction of getting her friends to do foolish things on stage. What power!
When Susan moved to La Verne, California, she joined a writers' group and was inspired and encouraged to write a trilogy for young adults--"Scraps in Time"--about a girl who discovers that she can time-travel. Because of her love of historical fiction, Susan researched the eras and places her protagonist visited, hoping that her readers of any age would learn some history along the way. Susan has also written a lot of short stories, some worth sharing, others probably not.
