Overview

In December 2013, Jang Song Thaek, largely regarded as the second most powerful person in North Korea, was purged from the leadership. Days later he was publicly accused of attempting to steal power from his nephew--Kim Jung Un. In a matter of days, Jang Song Thaek was found guilty by a military tribunal and sentenced to death. Jang was executed immediately after his trial. In the following days, North Korean propagandists worked tireless to remove all mentions of Jang Song Thaek from the North Korean media. A special project--this report--by KoreanDefense.com is designed to preserve that history by recovering as many North Korean press mentions of Jang Song Thaek and making the uncensored version publicly available.
