About the Author

Tammie Francisque was born and raised in New York City. As the youngest of four, Tammie benefited greatly from observing the life experiences of the women in her life, especially her mother and three sisters. The earliest life-changing event she recalls is the divorce of her parents. At eight years old, Tammie and her sisters were uprooted from their suburban home in Queens and dropped into a new, more urban experience in Brooklyn. One year later, a stranger entered their lives and caused havoc on a once tight-knit family, turning their world upside down. In a turbulent environment, Tammie grew up quickly and learned to fend for herself in many ways. Images of womanhood, motherhood, and self-empowerment were being shaped in her mind, and she made the conscious decision to take responsibility for shaping her own future.

In 2002 Tammie met and fell in love with her husband William. He had grown up in a large, close-knit family with customs that were different from her own. He wanted to be a father and believed Tammie would be an excellent mother. It was the first time she had seriously entertained being a parent. The sacrifices she needed and wanted to make for her child strengthened her and created a purpose and pure joy she didn't realize she craved. More than at any other point in her life, Tammie wanted to share her maternal experience with her own mother. Through cathartic interviews, Tammie learned her mother had experienced much during their years together and even more so in their years apart. Nobody's Child: A Biography is a culmination of those emotional interviews. Tammie's hope is that her Mother's wish to share her story with the world will give someone else hope, and empower them to believe they can face adversity and still be victorious.

This book is dedicated to ALL the children who felt disconnected, unloved, and unwanted. It's for the children who had to grow up quickly, formulate a plan, and push through despite the odds.

Tammie Francisque lives in New York City with her family. This is her first published work.
