CHAPTER 1
Once upon a time, approximately 300 years ago, there was a four-and-a-half- year-old boy named Newton.
Newton loved apples and played all day long under an apple tree.
He was lucky, because during his time, all the apples on the trees had at least one caterpillar.
The caterpillars came in beautiful, shiny colors.
Newton loved mathematics. He made an equal sign (=) with two caterpillars.
He made a triangle with three caterpillars.
Even though squares were not Newton's favourites, he made a square with four caterpillars. He made a pentagon with five caterpillars and a hexagon with six of them, and he was proud.
One sunny summer day, as Newton was talking to his caterpillar friend, who was sitting on Newton's fingertip, suddenly --boom! --an apple fell on Newton's head and left a bump. Oh, it was a hard apple, and the bump was sore.
One minute later, another apple fell on Newton's head and hit the same spot. The swollen bump got more swollen. Oh, it was a hard apple, and the bump was sorer.
Two minutes later, another apple fell on Newton's head and hit the same spot. The swollen bump got even more swollen. Oh, it was a hard apple, and the bump was sorer.
Three minutes later, another apple fell on Newton's head and hit the same spot. The swollen bump got much more swollen. Oh, it was a hard apple, and the bump was really sore.
Four minutes later, another apple fell on Newton's head and hit the very same spot. The swollen bump got even more swollen. Oh, it was a hard apple, and the bump was really, really much sorer.
