About the Author

Edith Nesbit (1858 - 1924) was an English author and poet. She wrote or collaborated on more than 60 books of fiction for children. She was also a political activist and co-founded the Fabian Society, a socialist organization later affiliated with the Labour Party. Nesbit published approximately 40 books for children, including novels, collections of stories and picture books. Collaborating with others, she published almost as many more.

Narrator Teresa Gallagher has an amazing ability to differentiate the voices of a wide-range of children by age. They’re not just a bevy of kids. When she dramatically describes a family wedding, it's from the viewpoint of youngsters who see the 26-year-old bride as old. Equally entertaining is hearing the lengths the kids go to to make a real Christmas pudding after their father tells them that he directed the cook to make a plain one.
