In the book's first 40 pages, Gay, a freelance writer and consultant in the area of educational and communication technologies, provides a detailed introduction to the origin, development, and social implications of this revolution. He uses Alvin Toffler's "third wave" analogy to explain the dynamics of change on a massive scale in the digital age.
