13Thirty Books asked twenty-six authors to agree to write stories based on the Tarot, with the cards determining which stories the authors would write.
Over the course of several months we reached out to some of the best genre authors and proposed our idea.
Once we had our authors, we took a tarot deck and a list of all twenty-six names. We would read the author’s name, shuffle the deck, and draw a card.
That tarot card and its traits were all the authors had to go on.
The card was removed, the deck was reshuffled, and the next name was read off.
This anthology contains twenty-six stories based on the twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana and the four cards of the Minor Arcana.

Lisa Mannetti’s debut novel, The Gentling Box, garnered a Bram Stoker Award and she was nominated in 2010 both for her novella, “Dissolution,” and a short story, “1925: A Fall River Halloween.” She has also authored The New Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn (2011); Deathwatch, a compilation of novellas—including “Dissolution”; a macabre gag book, 51 Fiendish Ways to Leave Your Lover (2010); two nonfiction books; and numerous articles and short stories in newspapers, magazines, and anthologies. Not that I am necessarily good, because the definitions of moral words are often relative, but I do persevere, and I am resilient. Nothing in life has ever worked out the way I planned for it to. In many areas of my life, I have yet to reach the level I thought I would, of where I envisioned I would be, but I haven’t given up. I won’t give up. I continue to work hard and do everything I can to help who I can and to make my dreams come true. Besides great kids, family, and friends, that perseverance has so far garnered me a USA Today Bestselling tag and twelve plus books on the shelf in a number of genres (contemporary romantic suspense, historical suspense, paranormal suspense, and contemporary romance). After working thirteen years as a registered nurse, four of which she felt like ‘Hot Lips Houlihan’ while serving in the United States Air Force, Lori Avocato picked up a book and said, "Hm. I grew up in the boonies of Pennsylvania. I was a single child and I spent many nights growing up reading all kinds of fantasy/sci-fi books. When I got older I was introduced to Dungeons&Dragons and began expressing my creative tendencies by running games for my friends. Spending hours after school making my own worlds and tales for my friends to experience. Reading, writing and gaming are passions of mine, and I am blessed to be able to share them with so many people.
Lance Taubold has been an entertainer for 25 years, performing at the MET Opera, on Broadway and on television for 5 years on the soap opera "General Hospital." I am a Marine Corps veteran currently writing stories about knights, Elves, Dragons, and the occasional futuristic super-soldier. I am currently working on The Judges Cycle, an epic fantasy that takes place in the biblical Land of Nod, during a time when the history of their realm is all but forgotten by its inhabitants. My short fiction, which includes some horror, thriller, and a military sci-fi adventure, is featured in the "Never Fear" and "Uncharted Worlds" anthologies. When not writing, I enjoy lifting weights, running, skiing, playing various Warhammer-related games, and listening to too much heavy metal. I have a beagle, a French bulldog, and two cats who are likely descended from mighty sabertooth. I like a good steak and don't even try having a conversation with me when eating crab leg.
