About the Author

Shari Latta grew up in Malibu, California, spending time riding horses on the beach. After graduating from Moorpark College with an Associate of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education, she opened a preschool for children two to five years old. Her love for educating young children and the love of travel broadened her horizons. South Africa had long been a place of interest, and when Shari discovered the amazing persona of Nelson Mandela, a passion was inspired. Shari read every book she could find on Mandela's life and the politics of South Africa, followed up by two trips to South Africa. She was able to stand at the spot where Nelson was ultimately arrested at the base of the Drakensburg, walk from the same prison gates as Mandela at Victor Verster, and see the cell on Robben Island. Looking for preschool age appropriate books on Mr. Mandela proved to be frustrating. While there are a couple of beautiful books for elementary school age children, there seemed to be nothing available for the young child. Shari decided to write one herself. This book, Nelson Mandela: A Hero’s Dream, is the outcome.
