About the Author

CATHERINE HUGHES is the author of several books in the National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book series, including Dinosaurs, Space, Animals, Bugs, Birds, and Ocean. She has an educational background in wildlife biology and a master's degree in early childhood development, and before her retirement she worked as executive editor for preschool content at the National Geographic Society. Catherine continues to combine her three life passions—kids, natural history, and the written word—as consultant, writer, and editor for children's books.
