Overview

Before Lucy and Desi became America's favorite television couple, Lucille Ball developed her show-business-aspiring housewife character from 1948-1951 on CBS Radio. Some of TV's most popular sitcom stars reprise two episodes from the radio series that inspired I Love Lucy.

An L.A. Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring Samantha Bennett, Jeff Conaway, Harold Gould, Marilu Henner, Joe Liss and Alley Mills.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Complete with Jell-O gelatin and Log Cabin syrup commercials, this production is a re-creation of the radio show that inspired I Love Lucy. As the main character, Liz, Marilu Henner sounds uncannily like Lucille Ball (who originally starred in that role). Jeff Conaway, Harold Gould, and Alley Mills play Liz's husband, George, and their friends, Rudolph and Iris. Very much in the style of the hilarious sitcom, this program derives its laughs from misunderstandings and one woman's outrageous personality. Of course, what was funny to audiences when the radio show aired (1948-51) may not have mass appeal today. Still, the continued reruns of I Love Lucy and similar programs would indicate that there is an interest in this type of show; the acting, editing, and music are all of the high quality typical of this producer. While not a purchase for all libraries, this will be a good addition where radio shows are popular.--Adrienne Furness, Genesee Community Coll., Batavia, NY Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
