*My Father, Maker of the Trees: How I Survived Rwandan Genocide
In 1994, 16-year-old Eric Irivuzumugabe climbed a cypress tree and remained there for 15 days without food or water. Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Irivuzumugabe was 16 when he witnessed the atrocities of the 1994 Rwandan genocide from atop a cypress tree, where, terrified for his life, he remained for 15 days. In subsequent years, he converted to Christianity and began a new life together with surviving members of his family. This is his story of healing and redemption, which Dion Graham (see Behind the Mike, LJ 11/1/09) expertly narrates, switching between Rwandan and Southern American accents without losing step. Biblical quotes are interspersed throughout, and an inspirational song is included. For anyone who appreciated Philip Gourevitch's We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families or the works of Ishmael Beah and Faith J.H. McDonnell. [See "Great Discoveries," LJ 7/09.—Ed.]—Terry Ann Lawler, Phoenix P.L.
