Published in 1935, this little book, by Francis Jammes, depicts Bernadette’s early life through the eyes of her mother, who had already felt the holiness of her special daughter.
This holiness is imbued in an environment full of perfumed flowers as though Bernadette’s birthplace were a paradise on earth. In brief but poignant anecdotes she tells her sainted daughter about the family lineage. Through these inhabitants who live in the environs of Fatima, the reader is able to gain knowledge not otherwise possible even in the many novels and Hollywood productions dealing with Bernadette.
The strength of this little book is in Bernadette mother’s power in sharing the holiness of her daughter with us.
