About the Author

From an early age Murray was artistic. His favorite pastime was and still is doodling cute and fun little characters. As Murray entered the working world he utilized his natural creative talent in his graphic design profession. Illustrating being his true love, Murray started looking for freelance illustration work. Murray had no idea that answering a Kijiji ad would help his long time ambitions come to life. A well known children's book author and disability advocate, Jewel Kats gave him a shot at illustrating one of her children's books. That experience gave Murray the courage to pursue other illustration contracts. Murray had an instant connection to Jewel, through the world of physical disability. Murray's oldest son Ethan had a stroke at birth causing CP and other life altering conditions. With his new found courage and through the help of Victor R. Volkman and Loving Healing Press Murray brings this wonderful story to children everywhere. Murray's hope is that siblings of children with disabilities will know they too are not alone.

CHAPTER 1

This is Ethan, my ten-year-old brother. "Ethan is different than you," says my mother.

You see Ethan can't learn like you and I. His brain was hurt when he was just a little guy.

The doctors call it a funny sort of word. Cerebral palsy, at least I think that's what I heard.

Ethan can't run, jump, or play. Nor can he do other things like me the same way.

I know my ABCs, numbers, and how to take a turn. Not Ethan, words, numbers, and directions are hard for him to learn.

Sometimes I get mad when he acts strange and silly. He likes to drag things, like the garbage can, all over, willy-nilly.

I am better at sports, colouring pictures, and board games. I know my phone number and can remember people's names.

I can go to a friend's house and stay over night. Ethan can't; he might have a seizure and give them a fright.

When I am sick, my mom has medicine for me to take. Ethan takes pills every day, making it hard for him to stay awake.

Ethan is one-of-a-kind, he has a skill that's really sweet. He can listen to any song and in no time figure out the beat.

I like some of my classmates and others not at all. Ethan loves everyone — boy or girl, short or tall.

Sometimes I'm a messy little boy, and don't like to clean up my room. Ethan loves to pick things up and play sweep up with the broom.

Mom calls me a picky eater who will never try something new. Ethan has what dad calls a healthy appetite. He even likes broccoli — ewww!
