My Afterlife After a Life
Meet Dru Hylen. He's gay, outspoken, a cancer survivor and is living with AIDS.

He has lived a life that took him on a bumpy roller coaster ride. He was a world recognized athlete in his sport of bowling, even representing the United States in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. But, that roller coaster dove down into a life led by heavy drinking, drug addiction, health issues and family problems. Wrong choices were the theme of his life for almost ten years.

Meet the wiser Dru who cared full-time for his dying mother, whose serious relationships broke his heart more than once, who endured brutal chemotherapy that took him to knocking at death's door, who was visited by two psychic spirits on his long road to recovery and who still follows a major drug regimen to keep his AIDS in remission.

My Afterlife After a Life is told with wit, humor, self-deprecation and a strong dose of sobering reality. It is an inspiring memoir that will tug at your heartstrings, make you laugh out loud and shake your head wondering how one person could pack so much into a life. But, as Dru writes, "I am thankful for nights that turned into mornings, friends that turned into family, and dreams that turned into reality."

About the Author

This is the true story of the trials and tribulations that I – Dru Hylen – have been through and what I’ve learned from them. Like so many, I’m one of those people who has learned through his faults and mistakes, learned to laugh at my gaffs and embrace the differences in all of us. I have gained empowerment because of my struggles, lost fears through acknowledging trust, and no longer enable my previous bad behavior. My life experiences have shaped me into the kinder, gentler person I am today. As a cancer and AIDS survivor, every day now I experience life through learning, laughing, and loving.
