Overview

Popular author Jim Walker packs his Mysteries in Time series with romance, adventure, and the encompassing power of God's love. In Murder at Gettysburg, a Mennonite schoolteacher seeks justice for one man's death, while the chaos and brutality of the Civil War swirl around her. Twenty-six-year-old April Wolff doesn't fit in with her Pennsylvania neighbors: she would rather teach women and slaves than get married. So when her pacifist father is found murdered in cold blood, and a Confederate general is seen leaving the scene, she vows to find the killer herself. As April's search leads her through enemy camps, she survives attempts on her own life--and discovers help and love where she least expects them. Multi-talented Jim Walker writes books in a variety of genres, holds a Master of Divinity degree, and speaks at conferences around the world. Ed Sala's dramatic narration underscores all the excitement and danger of a woman's search for the truth.

JUN/JUL 03 - AudioFile

In the summer of 1863, Rebel soldiers are pushing their way north into south-central Pennsylvania. As 26-year-old April Wolff returns from helping a neighbor, she sees Southern troops reprovisioning at a nearby farm and arrives home to find that her father has been murdered. Blind housekeeper Tillie, whose ears are sharp, is sure she heard an officer’s clinking sword. Could a Rebel general be the murderer? Strong-willed April starts off with wagon and mules to find her father’s killer but learns that looking for a murderer at Gettysburg is like looking for a politician in Washington. Murder is everywhere, although most people call it war. Ed Sala is at his gruff-voiced best in bringing a whole army of men to life. Barbara Caruso starts and ends the tale with April’s own voice, bracketing the story in female warmth. E.V. © AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine
