About the Author

ALBA AMOIA is Associate Professor Emerita of Romance Languages at Hunter College of the City of New York and has also taught at Barnard College and Columbia University. During her teaching career, she also held positions at the United Nations, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the State Department Language Division. Her many publications include books on Stendhal, Dostoevsky, Camus, Italian women writers, and Italian theater.

BETTINA L. KNAPP is Professor Emerita of French and Comparative Literature at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Author of fifty books, she has written extensively on Jungian psychology and the literary arts, including A Jungian Approach to Literature, Theater and Alchemy, Exile and the Writer, Women in Twentieth-Century Literature: A Jungian View, Manna and Mystery, Women in Myth, Women, Myth, and the Feminine Principle, and Gambling, Game, and Psyche.
