Overview

Extraordinary Stories from the Great Outdoors.

Is a bad day spent outside really better than a good day at the office? This collection of twenty-three short stories, written by twenty semi-intrepid adventurers, aims to answer that question. Alternately laugh, cringe, giggle and feel inspired by our writers as they tell some of the most outrageous tales from the Great Outdoors you've ever heard.

* Traverse the length of Prince Edward Island on a wheeled living room sofa with Brent Curry and his unsuspecting Danish friend.

* Paddle a canoe from Canada to the mouth of the Amazon River with two accidental adventurers from Great Britain.

* Make friends with Rick Kunelius, a Banff-based marriage commissioner who weds couples under very unusual circumstances.

* Learn about the curse of marrying an adventurous husband from Leslie Bamford.

* Join Marty McLennan on the world's first-ever bicycle journey the length of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

* Rescue a moose from drowning in an icy Yukon lake with Hazel Booth and three friends.

* Take part in Canada's most grueling winter race with Matt Jackson at Quebec City's winter carnival.

And many more stories....

About the Author

A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier’s Business Administration program in Waterloo, Canada, Matt Jackson was lured away from the corporate world by the thrill of adventure journalism while still a university student. He is now an author, editor, photojournalist and professional speaker, and is the president of Summit Studios, a publishing company specializing in books about travel, humor and the great outdoors.

Matt’s first book, "The Canada Chronicles: A Four-year Hitchhiking Odyssey," is a Canadian bestseller and won the IPPY award for best North American travel memoir in 2004. He has edited eight anthologies of short stories, including bestselling titles "Mugged by a Moose," "A Beaver is Eating My Canoe," and "Never Trust a Smiling Bear." His writing and photographs have also been featured in more than two dozen popular magazines such as Canadian Geographic, Equinox, Backpacker, Explore, Canoe & Kayak, and BBC Wildlife.

He lives with his wife Stacey and daughter Louise in Victoria, BC, where they spend as much time hiking and kayaking as possible.
