Overview

Turn of the century America was an exciting time to be alive. There were so many new things happening and new idea which were not only impacting the country but the world. Yet, this progress was often times made on the backs of the common man, without an appreciation for their contribution to the overall good. The burgeoning industrial age gave rise to the robber barons which subsequently gave rise to unions being created in order to protect the rights of workers.
It is against this backdrop that Mr. Pingalabor sets out to understand who the real heroes are and what it means to be heroic. Family, friends, and employment combine to reveal the essence of his questions and lead him to thought provoking answers. As an oddity himself he observes the world around him from a unique vantage point and attempts to summarize his learnings in a series of pithy maxims. Mr. Pingalabor's sense of humor combined with his introspective meditations result in an unusual tale that takes place within everyday life.

About the Author

Phil Spencer has been telling stories since he was a young child. He believes that the stories we tell and the life events we share knit us together as a people, sharing the human experience. As the father of seven, home-schooled children living in Orlando, Florida, Phil has continued his story telling throughout the years, mixing in the occasional math lesson and science experiment between literary musings. He is pleased to note that none of the science experiments have leveled the house, to date. Spending thirty-one years as a technologist in the newspaper industry and working at such venerable institutions as The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, and The Orlando Sentinel, Phil has been surrounded by the continually unfolding drama of the world around us and fascinated by what drives people, both good and bad. He enjoys exploring these themes in a number of genres including children's books, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and whimsy.
