Clients must be able to monitor their progress by recording thoughts, feelings, physiological sensations, and relevant behaviors. Clients are educated about cognitive skills such as focusing, evoking, and planning. It is also important to discuss problem-solving skills, mindfulness, and assertiveness training. The use of homework is a central component of CBT, and therapists must address missing assignments and attendance problems. As goals are achieved, therapists must deal with the maintenance of these gains. The book ends by using the information as an integrated treatment manual. Assessment: This book integrates two excellent therapeutic approaches, motivational interviewing and CBT. It is easy to read and very practical, containing handouts that can be used with clients. This is an excellent resource for clinicians.
