Mostly Square Artifacts 2013

This is a catalog of the art work created by Richard B ChauDavis in 2013. The book contains 27 images with descriptions along with the artists thoughts about individual pieces and the series in general. "At the start of 2013 I started the series of works shown in this book. I resolved to create artifacts with nothing being precious. Much the way nothing became precious in the heat of crumpling images for ‘Kitchen Trash.’ The images are crumpled, torn, sliced, painted, sanded, dissolved and then carefully preserved. Each work made into a rescued artifact full of scars, personality, and texture. Subject matter and images involve nudity, sexuality and (to be fair) other things that I really care about like color, balance and texture. The work is in chronological order
This eBook is designed for adults (18+) interested in art.
Parental discretion and prescreening is advised as some of the
issues and images in the book deal with human sexuality."

About the Author

Statement:
I was trained as a painter. A lot of my sensibilities come from that training (how to balance a work, small on the bottom and large on top, craftsmanship, etc). While I deeply miss the smell of turpentine and the texture of paint, I find the camera and the computer irresistible. There is the sense of reality that comes easily to photographic images. With computers and software, an artist can control the whole image in a way that is either tedious or impossible in the darkroom. In addition, the new printers can make very rich blacks and grays. I have for a long time dealt with the concept of ‘not the split second’ but maybe the split 2 seconds or 5 minutes and present that time frame as one image. Sexuality as a theme in my work reflects a lot thinking, my Christianity, and my observations. Techniques I have used heavily are compositing, introducing color, scanning negatives, and digital to digital photography. I also love the beach and for relief take pictures there. Recently, I have been doing, 3D imagery, live art (I do an impromptu themed photo shoot with interested bystanders), Tainted Milk Series, assemblages, and oil painting/collages.
