Known by a litany of nicknames, Mitch McConnell, born Addison Mitchell McConnell Jr., is the senior Republican Senator elected from the state of Kentucky. Growing up in an area on the border of Indiana that was rich in opportunity and wealth unlike so many other unfortunate parts of Kentucky, he would become the Senate Majority Leader and one of the most powerful men in the world. In 1993, he would marry his now-wife, Elaine Chao. Together, the two would master the political dance of the kabuki all the way to the top, taking advantage of their privilege and position for personal gain while forgetting the people McConnell represents. In many ways, this a tale of two roads. One road led a boy to become one of the most powerful men in the world, while the other is a tale of hardship, drug addiction, and death. A tale of suffering and of being forgotten by the people they put faith in to make their communities great again.

About the Author

R.C. Christian is a writer who grew up in Eastern Kentucky, which is why it means so much to him. Born in the region in 1979, he grew up in the area learning how to fish, live off the land, and appreciate the true beauty and value of nature. He often liked to spend time with his grandmother in the forests of Appalachia leaning all of the different types of roots, plants, herbs, and trees. Natural medicine was always one of the subjects that truly fascinated him.
Leaving the area as a young man, he toured the country, taking it all in and learning about different cultures and people. Having an open mind, some would often remark that he was wise beyond his years. Once while on a trip, he happened upon a young lady who had been in a car accident. Barely clinging to life, he got help and did what he could for her until rescue services arrived. If not for him, she would have died.
After the death of his father, Christian went back to the hills that he always thought of as his home. Living on top of a valley, surrounded by the green forests of Appalachia, that turn fiery red with tinges of bright yellows and oranges in the fall. Near aquamarine blue streams colored by the reflections of the ethereal Appalachian sky. He often enjoys waking up in the mornings to watch the whitetail grazing in the pale blue grass from the screened covered porch in the front of his home that overlooks the ridge while eating his breakfast. Sometimes capturing images of the elk and other wildlife as they roam through. From his clandestine valley, Christian continues his works and social studies, often writing about the litany of different subjects that capture his interest. When not writing, Christian oftentimes likes to relax in his hammock while studying unsolved codes and working puzzles. Sometimes also reading alchemy and physics books while sipping coffee and just appreciating the world around him.
A private person, he has no online presence to speak of as he likes to stay away from the negativity of social media. He has no website nor blog. He is for lack of a better term, invisible.

I found Christain's succinct account of the deuteragonist of the book (Scott), to be shocking in some ways and entertaining on others. The amalgamate of telling the true story of the life of a person mixed with the commentary and political narrative of the Senator whose decisions affected this person's life is illuminating. The challenges faced by the people in the story, driving hundreds of miles every day to make five dollars an hour just to be laid off, is something many can relate to.

R.C. Christian's "Moscow Mitch and the Forgotten People" is very informative as well as an emotional story. The narrative of Scott and his trials intermixed with the account of Mitch McConnell and his fortuity embodies the duality of privilege and poverty. While some endure conditions that no one should in this modern age, no running water, no road to their homes, joblessness, addiction, etc.., Others are using their position in office for personal enrichment. Having similar experiences, I can relate to the subject matter of the book. Some parts angered me while others made me feel uplifted. I love how the book talks about new hope for the people while listing out the new possibilities and opportunities that could be developed if only some would get behind it. While the book was informative about Mitch McConnell, his life, and his ways, I particularly enjoyed reading about the police chase Scott was involved in. I would love to hear other stories.
