This is an excellent resource book for medicalpersonnel in pediatrics. This third edition contains two sections, onewith information about pediatric medical and surgical problems, theother with diagnostic tests and procedures. The previous editions werepublished in 1989 and 1992. The purpose is to provide pediatricnurses with a resource to provide high-quality care to children andassociated care to their families. The book is relevant, pertinent,and informative for pediatric nurses. The objectives are met to anextensive degree. The book is for pediatric nurses and studentnurses. It will be useful for medical students as well as anyhealthcare professional in pediatrics. The authors are credible intheir areas. The references are current and pertinent. Theappendixes in the book expand the information presented in thechapters. The compactness of the book allows it to be used as aresource and allows it to be easily accessible. The book is veryuseful for nurses and student nurses in pediatrics. The third editionprovides the most current and up-to-date information needed to provideholistic care to pediatric patients and their families.

This is a quick and concise handbook for pediatric nurse practitioners. The editors have added new chapters on substance abuse and bone marrow transplant action to enhance the previous edition published in 1996. The purpose is provide an easy to access, complete reference guide for pediatric nurses. The book is small and easy to carry or store. This reference is written both for the nursing student and experienced pediatric nurse. The editors are well known in the pediatric healthcare community through publications and presentations. The most common pediatric ailments are covered, as well as diagnostic tests and procedures. The alphabetical ordering of the pediatric conditions makes this reference book easy to use. The nursing assessments in the appendixes are excellent guides for the pediatric assessment. The chapters are set up to include pathophysiology, incidence, clinical manifestations, complications, diagnostic tests, and medical management as well as assessment, diagnosis, and interventions. Discharge planning and home care are also included. This format provides a comprehensive review for the new pediatric nurse. The bullet points and lists make for a quick reference for the experienced pediatric nurse to hit the highlights. I believe this is a valuable reference for any pediatric nurse. There are no other pediatric reference books that are this concise and easy to use. The 88 pediatric conditions and ten diagnostic tests and procedures make this edition useful for any pediatric unit reference library.

Purpose: The purpose is to provide an authoritative resource that will help pediatric nurses to deliver high-quality care for children and the associated care required by their families. The book provides a useful and needed tool for today's pediatric nurses.
Audience: It is written as a quick reference and resource for students as well as staff nurses and advanced practice nurses.
Features: The book covers information about frequently encountered medical and surgical conditions seen in the pediatric population and includes the most current clinical updates. Topics range from anorexia to congenital heart disease to bone marrow transplant. The book does a particularly good job of covering diagnostic tests and procedures. The appendix on pain in children is especially well done.
Assessment: This book provides a very important and useful tool for the nurse or student who wants to better understand current pediatric medical and surgical issues. Its compact size makes it easy to keep at hand for quick reference. Because it is written in an easy to understand format, it should be used quite frequently. This edition has the most current clinical updates which makes it even more valuable as a reference.
