Imagine an old stone farmhouse in the country, where lace curtains peek from the windows. A simple painted front door beckons you to enter and take an imaginary journey to a world of yesterdays. Inside is the look and feel of your grandmother's house-classic country-where nothing matches and period styles blend together like a good old-fashioned stew. There is a quiet, simple elegance about classic country. It evokes images of gingham checks or tweed, cozy pine and primitive furniture, textured fabrics, peeling painted surfaces and a lot of collections your grandmother would have lovingly called "knick-knacks." Modern country takes its cues from its classic heritage and at first blush might appear to be an oxymoron. Modern calls forth hard images of chrome and glass, black leather, machine-made metals, sleek lines and little clutter.
When classic is infused with modern, it becomes bold. It assumes an edge. It's classic country with a fresh, contemporary attitude. Like classic country, it mixes periods, patterns and pedigrees, but modern country introduces the element of restraint. As we like to say, "Mix it up and pare it down."
