Missing the Boat

You just missed the last ferry home. Roll for initiative!

Although Becca is Canadian and Morgan is from Wales, they have gamed together for years. Players use dice and words to create a story together in the imaginary world of the role-playing game they both enjoy, but the friendships formed amongst the participants are very real.

Morgan and her partner Lynn live on a boat; as digital nomads, they travel where the whim takes them. When they have the opportunity to attend a conference for computer professionals near Becca's home, it's the perfect opportunity for Morgan and Becca to meet in realspace.

Becca's planned the visit down to the last detail. She and Morgan spend the day on a scenic tourist island, and everything goes perfectly . . . until the last ferry leaves without Becca and she finds herself stranded on the island.

Morgan's dinghy is at the North Island Marina, and the C Shell is moored just south of the island, so she is only too happy to offer to take her friend home . . . but communication can be difficult and the journey may not end where either of them expects.

About the Author

Heather W Adams is a Canadian author of queer, kinky, slice-of-life fiction that is compassionate and character-driven. She is fascinated by issues of consent and communication and the ways different understandings of the world challenge even people who are doing their best to be good to one another. Heather doesn't remember a time she wasn't writing; encouragement on school assignments apparently did permanent damage to her self-image, fostering delusions of adequacy. She may or may not have a tendency to self-deprecation when writing author bios.
