About the Author

State Champion, soccer coach Jono, coached for Manchester City Football Club in their China schools project. He’s a UEFA trained football coach that holds a 2:1 BA Honours degree in Management Studies. And was previously in the Cardiff City Football Club's academy. He is an experinced football coach, father and author of the ‘Secret Soccer Scrolls’ series!

For Man City the work involved one coach being stationed in a school for 10 months at a time to deliver the highly sought after and worldwide esteemed Manchester City Football Club's coaching methodology to high schools, primary schools and football teams. Whilst also giving the coaches and PE teachers football coach education. Developing the school’s football teams and players and delivering football PE lessons to the wider majority of classes.

On the 3rd and final year of the project, Jono became the only Manchester City football coach on the project to win silverware. In May 2018 he became the Jilin Province, State Champion by leading his under 18 school team to win the Jilin Province, State Championship! The football mad Province has over 28 million people. At the same time, it had a Man City, UEFA A licensed coach, leading a rival school team from the State's capital city and many other foreign coaches that have sought to progress Chinese football.

After the project ended Jono was head hunted by one of the most prestigious schools in South China. A boarding school with more than 7,500 students. This is where he guided the under 18's team to finish 9th out of the top 24 football school teams in China. The month before taking charge; they'd finished 11th out of 16 in their State tournament. He also went onto guide a newly formed under 14 school team to finish 3rd in Chengdu City (population bigger than London), and 1st in their district.

As an original member of the Manchester City Football Club's China project, Jono has been responsible for the football coaching development of high schools, junior middle schools, primary schools and football teams through various temperatures and conditions. From the 40-degree Celsius intense summer heat of Beijing, Beihai and Chengdu to the minus 30 degrees temperatures of the Yanbian Chinese-Korean, autonomous prefecture, on the China - North Korean border.
