About the Author

Dana Silkiss, an accomplished musician, professional horse trainer, martial artist, author, and single father of 5 children, now lives in Albuquerque and on his horse ranch in North Carolina. He has produced documentaries for PBS
His book (Book of the month July 2018) reveals his harrowing story at age 19, of trying to save a black man, unjustly beaten by three racist cops in Daytona Beach. Days later, Dana was spotted in the same area, recognized and abducted by the same corrupt police, then beaten unconscious and taken to a privatized correctional facility in Cobb County, Georgia on June 6th, 1976.
Dana was tortured and forced into slave labor, where he witnessed everything from murder to prostitution. Escaping six months later he collaborated with a private detective and (unofficially) the FBI to expose and shut down the facility.
His real-life experience reflected in the book is a direct symptom of convict leasing, a system of prison labor used mainly in the Southern U.S. State-run prisons profit from contracting with private parties from plantations and corporations to provide them with convict labor.
In August of 2021, Dana has published the sequel, Midnite's Journey II, "The Aftermath"
