Recorded from 1994 to '95, the debut LP from the Santa Maria, California gangsta rap duo Cali Life Style is a product of its time. Leaning much closer to the G-Funk era sound pioneered by Dr. Dre, Warren G, and Tha Dogg Pound than fellow West Coast Latino rap crews Cypress Hill or Delinquent Habits, D-Lux and T-Dre come off like Mexican versions of Ice Cube and Eazy-E, flowing over hardcore beats built on funk, soul, and disco samples from the likes of Patrice Rushen, Kool & the Gang, and the Isleys.
