A guide offers a comprehensive system for CEOs to take their businesses to the next level.

Susko opens her manual by addressing not only the corporate leaders who are her obvious target audience, but also the bosses who have read more than their fair share of business books, the hundreds of volumes that provide motivation and insights on how to make things work better. All those guides are fantastic, she asserts. But, she tells readers, although you have the team and you have the plan, the results never seem to gel. The author’s answer to this problem: her own book, which delivers “Metronomics.” This is a framework composed of smaller systems grouped around seven headings: “cohesive, culture, strategy, execution, cash, human, and coach cascade.” Using these systems and building on some of the most famous of those earlier business books like Good to Great by Jim Collins, Susko lays out a well-designed and well-illustrated strategy to strengthen both corporate and personal priorities. (The manual is full of flow charts to help readers visualize things.) Metronomics is a long game, the author stresses. “You’ll see results quite quickly, and there will be times when it will be frustrating,” she writes. “You’re going to feel you can go much faster, but you have to resist the temptation.” The prose discussing her one system to rule them all is uniformly concise and readable (unlike some of the business books she praises), very effectively buttressed by the volume’s ample visuals. The guide is aimed at bosses: CEOs and other executives who want to improve the performances of their companies and teams. This necessarily limits its readership, but to that target audience, Susko supplies a great deal of extensive and helpful advice.
