Overview

When Meredith Marsten’s floatplane loses power in a storm, the 16-year-old Canadian bush pilot is forced to land on an unknown lake isolated in the wilderness of northern Manitoba, Canada. Realizing that the lake is the very one where she and her step-father had released her now-grown wolf pup back into the wild, Meredith embarks on a quest to reunite with her beloved “Wolfie.” Thus she begins a suspenseful journey through the pristine boreal forest, a journey full of encounters with the drama of nature, animals, humans, and her own surprising destiny.

About the Author

A native of Atlanta, GA, Judith Barban has garnered numerous awards for her novels, short stories, and poetry. Her first novel, Poplar River, won the coveted “You Are Published” award sponsored by the Southeastern Writers’ Association. Set in the pristine wilderness, this work and its sequel, Meredith’s Wolf, transport readers into a world of unspoiled natural beauty and wildlife, a world fraught with danger, suspense, and romance. An illustrated poetry collection, Crown Jewels, contains a number of top prize-winning poems. She is a popular guest speaker at book clubs, libraries, universities, and civic organizations.

Judith holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in French and Piano Performance as well as a PhD in Medieval French Language and Literature. Honors include Phi Beta Kappa and a Fulbright Grant to France. She is widely published in scholarly journals in both the fields of music and French literature. An edition and first-ever translation of a 13th-century manuscript, The Life of Saint Audrey: A Text by Marie de France has distinguished her in the area of Medieval Studies.

Judith and her husband Eugene, a concert pianist, live in Tega Cay, SC, with their “tuxedo” cat, Steinway. They spend a part of every summer fishing and camping in the Canadian wilderness.
