About the Author

Raj Dasgupta is Raj Dasgupta is associate professor of clinical medicine, division of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and is the associate program director of Internal Medicine residency program. He actively teaches USMLE Step 1, 2, 3, and Internal Medicine Board Review around the world for the past 15 years through Kaplan and other organizations and institutions. He has appeared on various media outlets and television shows such as The Doctors, KTLA and Larry King Now.

Purpose: The cases are good examples of the type of situations presented in the examinations and during teaching rounds, familiarizing readers with the type of questions to expect.
Audience: The intended audience consists of those preparing for the Step examinations.
Features: The 62 cases in the book are typical of those found on the USMLE Step examinations or during teaching facility morning report sessions. Each case is well presented with questions that would be discussed during the teaching rounds and clinical/basic science "pearls of knowledge" that focus on very specific items pertinent to the discussion that should be remembered. There are numerous intuitive tables and radiology images that would usually be presented during morning report along with color photographs of specimens. Each case has a section called "Beyond the Pearls," which is a helpful summary of the take-home facts of the case. There are also excellent references with each case.
Assessment: This is a useful preparation guide with excellent cases and explanations.
