Overview

In the 1800s, several movements were in place to regain Hungarian independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Hungarian nobleman Lajos Kossuth was at the forefront of one of these movements, and towards the end of the 1800s, the Hapsburgs were losing control of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Jules Verne's 1885 novel "Mathias Sandorf" plays upon this theme.
