Overview

In the 1800s, several movements were in place to regain Hungarian independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire.The Hungarian nobleman Lajos Kossuth was at the forefront of one of these movements, and towards the end of the 1800s the Hapsburgs were losing control of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Jules Verne's 1885 novel "Mathias Sandorf" plays upon this theme.
