Maria Montessori: Teacher of a New Era
Rome, 1896. The young doctor Maria Montessori is shaken by the sight of the little patients with mental retardation she encounters at the city's psychiatric clinic. Maria insists on giving toys to the lethargic children, and they awaken, in front of her astonished eyes, from the phase of absolute apathy. This is one of the greatest moments of happiness for her but also the beginning of a brilliant career in education. However, when she falls in love with a colleague, she is called upon to make the most difficult decision of her life... Laura Baldini outlines the significant milestones in the life of Maria Montessori, who challenged the traditional education system, opposed centuries-old educational practices, and sparked an educational revolution. Combining biography with fiction, the author paints the portrait of a true pioneer and illuminates the human side of the educator whose legacy continues, even today, to change the world for the better.
