This book prepares the young reader for severe weather by taking them through a first-hand experience of a direct tornado hit. Meteorologist and Mom, Allie Garrett, wrote this book to educate young readers on what actually happens during a tornado outbreak event. She explains the watch, forecasting process, severe weather safety and clean up processes in a way children can relate. "When my boys would hear thunder, they would instantly be afraid and the look on their faces broke my heart. Once I explained that they were safe, that the storms were being monitored by forecasters and meteorologists and I reviewed our safety plan with them, they became much more relaxed and intrigued by the storms. My hope for this book is that parents, grandparents, friends and teachers will use this as a resource to explain the severe weather process to kids who live in areas prone to severe weather events. I also hope this book will strike up conversations about severe weather safety. I've even included a severe weather checklist in the back to help the readers prepare for the next storm. I hope my readers never experience this scenario firsthand, but if they do, I hope this story prepares them and the knowledge they gain plays a key role in their survival.
