Traces the career of director St. Clair (1897-1952) from his silent comedies through his transition to sound films. Discusses his beginning as a Keystone Kop, his work with Buster Keaton, his work for Paramount in the 1920s, and later sound films with 20th Century Fox. Among his better known movies are "Gentlemen Prefer Blonds" and "The Canary Murder Case". Based on a doctoral dissertation for the University of Toronto, 1991.
