About the Author

LUCY MAUD MONTGOMERY [1874-1942] was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada. In adulthood, she was publicly known as L. M. Montgomery but as "Maud" by family and friends. She attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, PEI and obtained a teaching certificate. In 1895-96 she studied literature at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1908, she published her first book, Anne of Green Gables, which was an immediate success. She married Ewan Macdonald, a Presbyterian Minister, and moved to Ontario where she wrote her next eleven books.
