This wonderful work is enhanced by Prunella Scales’s presentation. Early twentieth-century England, its mores and class struggles, both social and personal, are all vividly brought to life. Scales portrays both men and women with equal grace. The main characters are instantly recognizable as they exchange slights, slurs and maudlin compliments.
