Overview

PAVEL CERNY'S (PAV-el CHER-nee) career started as that of a film director in his native Czechoslovakia, in the magical city of Prague. After forced expulsion from the communist country, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked as a playwright and popular teacher. He was also an internationally known stage director (USA, Germany, Austria).

Pavel kept very busy but it wasn't until the Covid 19 pandemic that he became fully energized again. During the first months of the pandemic he wrote 4 screenplays and 4 books. The screenplays have meantime gathered over 20 awards at major screenwriting competitions, including selections for the European Cinematography Awards and for the Cannes Film Awards.

The first two of Pavel Cerny's books, HAMLET IN BALTIMORE - a horror fantasy about the childhood of Edgar Poe - and the charming book for children ALEX AND THE AMAZING CATVENTURES, about a 6-year-old boy and his talking cat, gathered praise from readers and book critics alike.

Next came two more parts of Edgar Allan Poe trilogy: THE BLUE BOTTLE, inspired by 27 years old Poe' marriage to his 13 year old first cousin Virginia, and THE GOLDEN WATCH-THE MURDER AT THE WASHINGTON HOSPITAL dealing with the still unexplained death of Poe.. then came two additional books about Alex and his CATVENTURES And finally for a complete change- the LGBTQ novel LSD MEMOIRS-LOVE STORY that will be published in time for Valentine's Day.
