Overview

James and Annabel are now married and expecting their first child when James is sent on a mission by the Duke to find the true state of affairs in America.
During a storm in the Bay of Biscay he rescues four women and becomes involved in a French Spy ring.
Arriving at his island, he captures two small French brigs that have been damaged during the same storm and finds they are carrying contraband goods bound for the French forces in Canada.
On arrival in New York he rescues the members of a German settlement who are being held captive by the French and because of this he is asked by the Governor to assist in the attack on a small island at the mouth of the St Lawrence River prior to the attack on Quebec. After the capture of the island, James is amazed to find Thomas Brolin among the prisoners and Thomas Brolin who challenges him to a duel.
Anxious to be home in time for the birth of his child, James is delayed at first by the weather, then stopping to search for a man lost overboard and finally on entering English waters he is attacked by an Arab slaver but manages to capture the ship which is carrying women taken to be sold as slaves.
On finally reaching his home port, James is shocked when he sees the Company house flag is flying at half-mast, a sure sign of disaster.

About the Author

I went to naval school at the age of 15 in 1955 and became a Navigating Officer and travelled the world including some remote islands such as the Galapagos and Pitcairn's.
I came ashore I to find London in the grip of the swinging 60's and I made my living as a singer/guitarist. During this time I met many of the people who went on to become household names such as Diz Disley & Stephane Grapelli, Billy Conelly and Gerry Rafferty, Paul Simon, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Brian May, and many others.
Using my Equity card I worked as an extra in Film and TV and later joined a stunt team working on TV shows like Moonstrike and Z cars, plus several films including 'The Thin Red Line' in Spain.
Most summers I headed for the coast working as a Life Guard on a beach or racing some rich man’s yacht for about £7.50 a week.
One day I was asked to lay some mooring for the local boatyard. He paid me £400 and I realised that diving paid better than singing so in 1964 I became one of only 200 officially registered Commercial Divers working in the UK.
In 1966 the Offshore Oil Industry was advertising for divers and for the next 40 years I travelled the world, and dived up to 750 feet and did saturation dives that lasted over 43 days.
During that time I worked and lived in many different countries as far apart as Borneo and Brazil, Norway and South Africa, most of the Middle East and the Caribbean.
I began writing in 1974 during an exceptionally long stay in a decompression chamber. Having read every book on the rig, I decided to write my own. It was in long hand, ran to 100,000 words and a load of rubbish.
When I came ashore, a close friend Benita Brown suggested we both join the Katherine Cookson Writers Group. I had some early success selling 3 plays for TV and writing articles for local papers. However divorce, pressure of work, and the amount of travelling I was doing did not give me a lot of chance to seek publication, though I continued to write for my own pleasure.
I retired to Majorca in 2010 and started a creative writers circle; the sheer enthusiasm of my members gave me the urge to look at some of my old work again. Since then I have published eleven books, with two more in the pipeline.
Writing has always been my way of relaxing; I find it so absorbing that everything else fades until I become totally immersed with my characters and their lives.
