Overview

At the end of 2021, I let go of a lot of things; most of them unwillingly. I let go of the hope that I could see my father again. I let go of a job, and in the process, a lifelong dream. I let go of certain deeply held beliefs. In struggling to let go of these, I wrote poetry.

Pen and paper do not judge you if you feel dread towards the relentless cockroaches in the apartment or for your fleeting feelings. Poetry does not frown at your life crisis in the laundry room, your conversations with trees in Chattanooga, or if you write letters to a god. Logic of the Woods embodies all of these.

About the Author

Eryearn "Ruth" Jang was born in South Korea, but spent her formative years between the Philippines, Australia, and Indonesia. At the age of nine, soon after her family moved to West Papua, she began writing poetry.

Much of her work is influenced by Ok Kigup, also known as the Digul river of southern Papua, and the Appalachian temperate forests of the southeastern United States. Logic of the Woods is her first poetry collection, and it includes her poems written between 2018 and 2023.
