Born to Austrian immigrant parents in 1901, Lofton Fox entered the world on the brink of unimaginable shifts in society, industry, and the world order. She was the first generation of her family born in America, the land of opportunity. During her 98-year lifetime, she would witness two world wars, The Great Depression, women’s suffrage, the Civil Rights Movement, and the advent of the technological age, among other wonders of a society in rapid progress. Through all of this, she remained faithful to her strong belief in God, and she adored her husband Melvin. She was left to run her and her husband’s chicken farm by herself, and she suffered the loss of their only child, Patty Ann. She embodied the values of endurance, hard work, and hope that characterized the best of her remarkable generation.
