Overview

The book Living In Christ Through Life's Seasons is a mosaic, a beautiful, thought-provoking,
spiritual blend of LaVerne's Christian writings and her spiritual insights. The
book contains all of her devotions. In them, she issues the challenge to each of us to "Read,
Consider, Meditate". Interspersed among these devotions are many of the Christian
poems and spiritual insights that she wrote. This beautiful mosaic is then molded into
four separate parts each devoted to a season akin to portions of one's life. Part1: January
- March, focuses on a season of new beginnings. Part 2: April-June, captures the Holy
season of Easter and discusses growing in Christ as we embrace church teachings. Part 3
explores how believers mature as He reveals Himself and we pursue knowing Him. Taken
together these expressions of LaVerne's life in Christ reflect the growth and maturation
potential in each of us living in Christ throughout the seasons of our lives.

About the Author

During the last thirty years of her life, LaVerne González became an accomplished,
even a prolific, writer. During this time, she wrote two novels, several short
stories, many poems about everyday life experiences, many Christian poems, many haiku-style
verses, and numerous Christian devotions. This past year her short stories were
published in the book Trails to El Yunque (Master Press 2018). These stories are taken
from experiences that LaVerne had when traveling with her husband Tony to Puerto Rico.
The stories are about common people experiencing the joys, hardships, and tragedies of
everyday life. LaVerne also maintained personal journals in which she recorded her daily
experiences, her innermost thoughts, much of her poetry and even one of her short
stories. In these journals, one can see LaVerne grow spiritually. In her later years, she
penned many spiritual insights that reflected this growth.

In 1964, at the age of 45, LaVerne’s life changed forever. She had always thought
that she would go to college when her children got out of school, but over the years
had lost hope of that ever happening. In 1964 her oldest son graduated from college.
That Fall, her husband Tony moved the family from Fort Wayne to West Lafayette, Indiana
where they enrolled in Purdue University. Being a brilliant student, in only five short
years LaVerne had received an undergraduate degree in English, a master’s degree and
finally her doctorate degree in Literature, while raising three children still at home. Upon
graduation, she joined the English Department at Purdue. She taught English writing
courses to incoming students, who lacked basic writing skills in English. In 1979, fifteen
years after leaving Fort Wayne, LaVerne was promoted to the position of Associate
Professor of English at Purdue.

LaVerne González truly lived her life in Christ throughout all of the seasons of
her life. She experienced the pain and depression of losing her Mother at an early age
to cancer, of losing a child at childbirth, and of losing a sister from complications in the
hospital. Through all the adversities in her life and through the good times, as well, her
faith grew and grew. Her faith, the risen Christ and the empty cross were her power line.
