Considering his erratic lifestyle, it is surprising how many good records
Chet Baker made during his final 15 years. This quartet outing with pianist
Phil Markowitz, bassist
Scott Lee, and drummer
Jeff Brillinger comprises four songs (including a 17-minute version of
Wayne Shorter's obscure "Beautiful Black Eyes"). This is joined by previously unreleased and fairly long versions of "I Remember You" and "Love for Sale." The quiet but swinging music is quite enjoyable and finds
Baker in fine form. ~ Scott Yanow
