Lisek's Great Adventure
Lisek’s Great Adventure is a story about a young half beagle, half pug dog named Lisek (pronounced Lee-seck) that was taken in and loved, for years, by a young boy and his parents. It’s a story from this little dog’s perspective, expressing her joy and how much friendship can be had between a child and his first pet. As for the dog’s name, it was chosen by the author when he visited Poland, met a dog named Lisek, and liked that it translated into “Little Fox”. When the author came back to California and got his own dog, he used that name. This story which is beautifully illustrated by Jonine Latar, is designed to teach children how fun it can be to have an animal and the responsibility that comes with it. It’s also meant to bring a smile to adults who remember the happiness they experienced with their first pet. This book was conceptualized by Paul when he was just 12 years old and finally came to, after he turned 28. The author is proud to have finally put together the story he’s had on his mind for 16 years. And his words to the reader, are, “if you have an idea or a passion, run with it and make it happen…don’t wait.”

Chapter One

Hi, my name is Lisek, and I'm an older dog who loves to lie in my master's arms. These days I'm not as physically active, so I make up for it with a lot of thinking. Outside is a beautiful, warm summer day. The sky is blue. The trees are green. And even though I don't feel so energetic, being with my master and feeling his love reminds me of our wonderful adventures together. This is my story.

I didn't always have a name. You see, before I met my best friend, I lived in a cold place with a hard floor, and there were lots of different dogs that barked like me and even cats that went "meow." Although we couldn't understand one another completely, we all wanted the same thing: for a young boy or girl to be our friend.

One day after many had passed and different dog and cat friends had come and go, I looked up as a little boy walked in with a big guy that was his dad. It was the first time he visited this place where we all lived, and I knew right away that we were meant for each other.

After just a step or two, the little boy let go of his dad's hand and pointed in my direction! He shouted, "There, Daddy! That's my dog! That's Lisek!"

The only word I could use to express my next feeling was "love" when the little boy picked me up and gave me a big hug.

Before I knew it, my best friend and I were in the back of a car on our way to his house, which would become my new home. This ride was exciting too because I was seeing the world for the first time. He even told me what everything was. "Look, Lisek, that's a bird and it's flying! And over there, those are trees. And that's a car like what we're in. And that's a girl!" Oh, it was all so exciting!

Finally, we made it to my new home, and as we stepped outside, there was another person that greeted me, the boy's mom. She complimented me and said I was pretty. I think I was blushing! Yes, this would be a good home.

After all that excitement, I was very hungry!

My friend brought me food in the backyard, which was where I would sleep from then on, in my very own special house.

And speaking of sleep, with a full tummy, it was time for me to go to bed!
