Lila's Child chronicles the first year of the Lila Squad discussion group... an Internet list devoted to the works of Robert M. Pirsig. This discussion focuses upon his second novel, Lila: An Inquiry into Morals although his first book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Value is also discussed a great deal. Lila's Child features an introduction by Robert Pirsig as well as over a hundred and fifty annotations where he explains and elucidates his thinking on the Metaphysics of Quality and how it relates to our conventional way of viewing reality. Many other philosophers are discussed as well. The contributors to the Lila Squad are from all corners of the globe and range in age from sixteen to over seventy years of age.
This book is an essential companion to those who want to further their understanding of the Metaphysics of Quality and the thought processes that went into it. It can be read and appreciated by those at the university level as well as those merely interested in filling in some of the ambiguities that might exist after reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila.

About the Author

I love speaking to Dan... these days he's a lazy bastard only working part time, spending most all of his time past midnight writing. Still, he once told me that he's worked at over 30 jobs during his lifetime and in a half dozen businesses of his own, from drudge work in filthy factories to scrubbing toilets to drilling wells to selling real estate. I understand Dan makes a claim to have been writing for many decades though it is my belief that he's only become serious about it in the last fifteen years or so. His writings have a tendency to make me cringe in their candor but I can't forget his stories - I suppose that's all we can hope for from any author. I guess I should warn you that there is a darkness in Dan's stories that I hope isn't contagious. Yet, he is always searching for that happy ending that doesn't appear. He never learns. We're both guilty on that count, however.
