About the Author

Joy is a writer/playwright and actress with a deep reverence for young people. She has a strong connection with little Black and Brown girls everywhere because she sees herself in each one. Her professional work has gifted Joy with the opportunity to help children heal from trauma. She has served as empowerment coach to the youth of Elm City aka New Haven, CT, for over twenty years offering her own brand of empowerment. The relationship shared with her daughter who is now an adult, sparked the need for a certain kind of children's book. One her daughter could see herself in. A children's book that addressed certain cultural situations. And so, she started writing children's books for her daughter, and now she is overjoyed to share them with the world. The vision for these books is to inspire caregivers to continue reading to the little ones!
