About the Author

Clyde Powell was born in Buena Vista, Georgia, in 1935. He became a believer in Jesus Christ when he was thirteen years old and began to read God’s Word daily and has continued to do so for the last seventy years. He and his late wife, Doris, from Dawson, Georgia, have two daughters. After four years in the navy, they made their home in Tyler, Texas. In Tyler, Clyde was a lay preacher in the Methodist Church for several years, preaching at many of the small churches all around the Tyler area. In 1967, he joined Evangelical Methodist Church, which later became Grace Community Church, where he presently attends. He has been involved with Navigators, Billy Graham Film Ministry, Evangelism Explosion, and Shamgar. Clyde and his wife taught a young married couples’ class for over ten years, and he served on the elder board of Grace Community Church. Through these ministries, God led him to discipleship.
Since his early retirement from the business world, he has met with and ministered to hundreds of young men on being a godly husband and father. Through his ministries, God put on his heart to reach children for Jesus through a short book. He realized that children have a short attention span and going too deep into God’s Word makes it boring for children. The Bible is the most exciting and most fulfilling book in the world. When someone has a real appetite for God, it is never boring.
This book was created by his desire to tell Bible stories with clarity while being fun to read. “Lil Abe and his sack lunch” represents the Bible story of Jesus feeding the five thousand and is short and fun to read. To know and fall in love with Jesus is so exciting. Let’s get our children in “love” with Jesus and a desire to know more about him.
