Editorial Reviews

NOVEMBER 2019 - AudioFile

Narrator Adam Verner guides listeners through the bizarre story of the Marah family and the events that lead to a man ending up in the hospital with a wound in his head from a surgical instrument. When Cohen Marah discovers his father’s body in their family mortuary, he immediately leaves, hoping that no one will realize he’s been there. Did he kill his father, or is there something much stranger at work? Verner does an incredible job of bouncing between two timelines—flashbacks in which Cohen experiences a deep childhood trauma and his current struggles to handle a world that is crumbling around him. Verner keeps listeners engaged from the bizarre start to the intense finish of this audiobook. V.B. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine
